Silent Treatment

Golden

No more, silence

Trembles beneath the shear

Knowing dull, rusty blades cut, bleed

Poison

Oh yes, DL, silence can be brilliant or ashen–depends on the intent…

You convey much, through these powerful lines.. I think you reflected on that darker silence, quite apart from that benign, golden bit.. A superb verse!

Heylo! Just popping my head in to say I hope You and Yours had a lovely Thanksgiving. And Lord, Danielle; this poem packs a serious punch every time I read it. Just a fast, furious response from my gut that says…ohhhh…God.

    Hugs and Namaste.

The silence is always painful, yet it always seems to give us plenty of time to figure out what to say before it broken. You made me feel this one..

You always have a way of poetically ‘flipping’ a subject, so that we can see the hidden aspect that is darker and often more common that the original connotation. Silence can indeed be a poisonous weapon as well as an interval of peace. So much said economically. :)

Thanks so much Mark. That was my goal; I guess that’s why I am really enjoying the challenges of a condensed form. It really stretches those mental muscles:)

Every comment you have received on this piece is well deserved. This is a wonderfully crafted piece, all words removed except for the ones required to cut straight into the reader.

I don’t often presume that poetry indicates the state of things with the writer, but are you okay lately? :\

Hi there Paul. Thank you, as always:)

Thank you, Purple. Yes, I agree. The silence is awful and so is waiting for the sideways comments and insults that eventually leak out. I feel so bad for anyone that has to go through it, especially the person I had in mind when writing it.

After noting the skillful use of form, I let myself just feel this, recognizing it before I peeked at your explanatory comment. Silence may be golden to some, but to others, especially when used as a weapon … it is just sad. Great poem!

You’re a sorceress. You’re a magician, a conjurer. I can’t believe everything you manage to pack into such a short, simple form. Breathtaking and powerful.

Thanks, J :) My dad was just telling me a story about one of his friends, and how he suffered through a loveless marriage with many silent treatments that eventually got the best of him, poisoned his outlook on life and himself. So sad.

Breathtaking! You have such a way of not mincing words, and yet, making mincemeat with them. You are the Iron Chef of words.
