Mixed Mediums (A Play on Shakespeare)
Oh good grief! Is this what it has come to??? Did I really write this???
This is the result of watching an MSNBC documentary, reading a book on poetic form, digesting a little Shakespeare, and mixing in a bit of melancholic obsession with the fall. (At least that’s what I’m going to tell The Bard when he haunts me in my dreams for sacrilege.) I’m also going to blame Linda Cassidy Lewis for commenting that “October rages.” (jk, Linda
)
My husband hates this poem. I’ll consider that a compliment given his eternally optimistic disposition.

Serial killer Out, out brief candle!
Severs victims limb from limb
…Life’s but a walking shadow
October rages Struts…. then heard no more.

If you ever write a suspense novel, this should be incorporated in the fist paragraph of the first chapter. Very sophisticated stuff Danielle.
Reading this reminded me of seeing some plays at Stratford. Good memories from highschool.

Funny..I watched an interview with a serial killer on MSNBC the other day. Tis the season, I guess. I LOVE the way you’ve mixed this up, though…especially how the first two lines play off each other, the serial killer snuffing out lives like a candle. Good stuff here..

Is this not the most AMAZING verse ever written? I just robbed a bit of it because for whatever reason in my weirdo mind, I thought of it when I was writing this haiku. To be honest it is the only bit of Shakespeare I would even recognize. Shame on me for not including a proper citation in the first place!

I REALLY, REALLY love this! You know, one of my blogging friends, Ichabod, does this sort of thing but with his own words. Sometimes I’ll write a poem and he’ll echo each line with his own thoughts. I do the same back sometimes….beautiful art form, and I’m sure Sir Shakespeare is smiling huge and sneaking kisses when Your husband’s not looking!

The sad thing is that the media glorifies and bombards us with all the bad happenings in the world often and so close to Halloween. These words are becoming very common. It’s a transitive theme and time from the warmth and life of summer into the cold and dead of winter.
